Lilburn, Georgia is a racially mixed city in Gwinnett County. Located northeast of Atlanta approximately 20 miles, Lilburn has an estimated population under 12,000 people. Lilburn was founded by the Seaboard Atlantic Railway in 1890. Due to a fire in 1920, the attack of the boll weevil on cotton crops and the depression of 1929, Lilburn’s city government cease to exist until 1955 when the need for a new waterline created a need for a new city government. During the late 20th century, many of the homes in Lilburn were built. Lilburn homes have beautifully landscaped lawns that are fairly large (one half to one acre).
Four major hospitals can be found within a 10 mile range of Lilburn that offer great medical care. Students are served by the Gwinnett County Schools. The school system includes many award winning schools and some of the finest in Georgia. There are two colleges in Lilburn and many more within a short driving range. Private schools are also available for those desiring this type of education.
There are many recreational sports activities available. Biking, tennis, golf, jogging, bicycling and hiking are all located nearby. One of the largest Hindu temples in the United States is located in Lilburn along with a diverse mixture of other temples and churches.
About a 35 minute commute takes the residents of Lilburn into Atlanta. In Atlanta there are all the amenities of any large city. Performing arts, concerts and shopping are all easily found in Atlanta. For professional sports fans there are six major league sports teams to be found in Atlanta. One of these teams, the Atlanta Braves is known nationwide for their many wins and by being televised by Turner Broadcasting on cable networks. Air travel is easily accessible through the Atlanta Airport.
