Lawrenceville Real Estate Information

Lawrenceville is the county seat of Gwinnett County Georgia. Lawrenceville was incorporated December 15, 1821 and is the second oldest city in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area. It has an area of 13 square miles and an estimated population of 28,000 people. The city is racially mixed and almost 40% of households have children under the age of 18 living in them.

The city was named for Captain James Lawrence, who is famous for the Navy motto “Don’t give up the ship.” The first county courthouse was a log structure that was replaced by a brick structure. On September 10, 1871, a member of the KKK burned down this courthouse wanting to get rid of some evidence against him. The replacement courthouse was poorly constructed and torn down to make way for a third brick courthouse in 1885. That courthouse still stands today.

In Lawrenceville, the Aurora Theater offers live performances. Ghost tours of the city, with a costumed guide, will take you on a 90 minute, spine chilling adventure during the months of May through October. The building that was once a Female Seminary, a finishing school for girls, is now a museum and open for visitors. At Medieval Times you will not only enjoy a great meal but also see jousting.

Lawrenceville is home to the Gwinnett Braves a minor league professional baseball team. The small airport in Lawrenceville serves a few commercial flights but is mainly used by non-commercial airplanes. Only a few miles away, Atlanta, is home to the Atlanta Braves and five other major league professional sports teams. The world’s busiest airport is in Atlanta, having more flights on a daily basis than any other airport in the United States. This airport connects the Atlanta area with the rest of the world though air transportation.
