Dacula Real Estate Information

Halfway between the metropolitan Atlanta and the academia of Athens is a population of almost 4,000 people called Dacula. Dacula was founded in the early 1900’s as a train stop between Atlanta and Decatur. The name Dacula supposedly was created as a combination of these two cities that were already prospering at the time.

Currently, Dacula is one of the fastest growing areas in the state of Georgia. Dacula is located off Interstate 85 at its intersection with Georgia 316. Dacula is located in Northeast Gwinnett County in Northern Georgia.

Elisha Winn, founding father of Gwinnet County built his home in what is now Dacula in 1805. At that time, Dacula was on the Georgia Frontier. Winn served as inferior court judge at the time of the founding of Gwinnett County in 1918. Since there was no courthouse or jail for the county, Winn used his barn for a courthouse and the jail was in his backyard. Abandoned and allowed to fall into disrepair after WWII, the home has been fully restored to the way it looked in 1870 by the Gwinnett Historical Society and is located just outside of Dacula.

Dacula Park, just outside of Dacul, is operated by Gwinnett County and offers swimming as well as varying other activities. About forty miles away is Atlanta with all the amenities of any large city. The Atlanta airport affords easy travel to the rest of the world. Shopping opportunities abound in Atlanta.

Atlanta is also home to the Atlanta Braves made know across the United States by their winning seasons and cable television’s Turner Broadcastings. Dacula is far enough away to be a small town of its own right, but close enough to have the convenience of Atlanta.
