Fulton County Real Estate Information

The major part of the Atlanta Metropolitan area is located in Fulton County. Atlanta serves as the county seat. Many times the name of Fulton is attributed to Robert Fulton who sailed the steamboat Clermont between New York City and Albany. Newer research however, points to a railroad official named Hamilton Fulton. Hamilton Fulton convinced officials that rather than building a canal they should build a railroad to allow shipping and transportation from the former state capitol, Milledgeville to Chattanooga, Tennessee.

In 1868, Atlanta became the state capitol of Georgia. At this time the population of Fulton County is over an astonishing 816,000. Although there are many older cities such as Alpharetta, Roswell and Sandy Springs that are found in Fulton County, there are three cities that have been incorporated since 2006 in the county. These cities include from the north, Johns Creek and from the south, Chattahoochee Hill Country.

There are several major employers in the county that are potential job opportunities. These include Georgia State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Delta Airlines and Cox Entertainment.

In Fulton County you may want to visit the State Capitol, The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum, or the zoo. The Atlanta Metropolitan area has much to offer. Six professional sports teams are based in the Atlanta area including the Atlanta Braves. Two major interstate highways intersect in Atlanta, giving easy highway access to the north, south, east and west. The Atlanta airport is one of the best and busiest airports found in the United States. Normally, it serves more passengers and has more annual flights than any other airport in North America, and this airport offers easy access to the rest of the world.
